ONLINE ONSLAUGHT
SmackDown! Spoilers
April 3, 2002

The WWF's temporary solution to splitting the "b-level" TV shows was clarified further last night at TV tapings in Rochester, NY...  in addition to tapings Vince's Flagship SmackDown! show, other matches were held for the syndicated Jakked/Metal programs, which will apparently also fall under Vince's control.

As outlined yesterday, Heat (formerly taped along with SD!) is now a Flair-owned show and was taped prior to RAW.

Here are the full results from last night's WWF-SD tapings, compiled from multiple e-mail reports:

-  In dark matches, Rikishi and D-Von Dudley were victorious over "Enhancement Talent"...  one reader present was pretty sure that D-Von's opponent was actually the man formerly known as "The Wall" in WCW (if so, he was there on a try-out basis, as he's not been a part of the WWF's developmental program for months, now).

-  Taped for Jakked/Metal:  Jazz beat Ivory to retain the Women's Title...  Faarooq beat Lance Storm...  the Godfather assaulted Val Venis and turned heel by blaming the fans for his failed "escort business"...  Hugh Morrus and Chavo Guerrero beat the Hurricane and Sho Funaki.

-  Michael Cole and Tazz entered the arena, and were the new (old?) announce team for SD!...

-  SmackDown! tapings opened with a pre-taped Vince McMahon interview in which he reveals that he (Vince) gets to pick HHH's number one contender, which sorta scraps the HHH/Undertaker match set up on RAW.  He'll announce the #1 Contender later tonight.

-  Angle heads to the ring and cuts a big promo, announcing he should be the #1 Contender.  Chris Jericho interrupts (getting a face pop at first, before turning the crowd back against him) and say HE should be #1 contender.  Jericho and Angle agree to a match to decide the #1 contender, at which point the Rock comes out and says there's one more man who should be considered for the title show, and that's Hulk Hogan.  A quick survey of the fans indicates Hogan is the popular choice for the spot, and the Rock tells Vince to consider that when he makes his decision.

-  Billy and Chuck defeat Scotty and Albert in a tag title match.  They got the win thanks to Rico's interference, but after the match, Scotty is about to get revenge by hitting the WORM on Billy.  That's when Albert intercepted him and gave him the BaldoBomb.  We have another heel turn.

-  Backstage, Vince announces that he has decided to go ahead and name Hulk Hogan as the #1 Contender, afterall.  Chris Jericho hears this and cut a promo on the Rock; the two agree to have a match later tonight.

-  Christian upset Diamond Dallas Page in another chapter of their almost-feud.  Not even a mid-match temper tantrum could spoil Christian's chances of victory...

-  Triple H hits the ring for a promo, and announces that the Undertaker need not worry...  after HHH beats Vince's #1 Contender, Hulk Hogan, he'll still have plenty left to kick the Dead Man's ass.  So it looks like a double title defense main event at Backlash...  Hogan eventually comes out, and is in sort of a combo-mode:  he's still "Hollywood" and uses Hendrix for his entrance theme, but he's also gone back to a red and yellow outfit.  He cuts a Hulk-a-mania style promo with HHH, even ending with the "Whatchya gonna do?" catchphrase.  HHH looks more bemused than intimidated.

-  Edge got a DQ win over Kurt Angle; the two wrestled a good few minutes before the finish, which had Angle grabbed a steel chair and whacking Edge with it as Edge ran at him to deliver a Spear.

-  Backstage:  Billy Kidman is talking to Torrie Wilson, and apparently, they've decided to let bygones be bygones and be friends again after whatever split them apart back in WCW.  Tajiri walks in on this mending of the fences, and gets jealous.  Tajiri and Torrie start making out as Kidman walks away in frustration...

-  Billy Kidman beat Tajiri to win the WWF Cruiserweight Title.  The action was solid here, and the finish had Torrie preventing Tajiri from using the title belt against Kidman.  While Tajiri was confused, he got rolled up from behind by Kidman for the three count.  After the match, Tajiri cut a mean-spirited promo in Japanese on Torrie, and then left without her.

-  Backstage:  Vince McMahon gives Bob Holly a mission, to make Maven pay for losing the Hardcore Title before it could become exclusive to SmackDown.  Holly promised to kick his former student's ass for Vince.  Towards the end of the segment, Stacy Keibler wanders by and one of those patented creepy-old-guy-and-hot- chick segments ensues between her and Vince.

-  Again backstage:  D-Von Dudley storms in and rips into Vince for breaking up the Dudley Boyz.  Vince basically tells him to get lost until he "finds himself."  Is a repackaging of D-Von in the works?

-  Bob Holly basically squashed Maven, as per Vince's order.

-  The Rock beat Chris Jericho in the SD! main event.  The two had their typically good match for about 8 minutes, and then interference from both Angle and Edge spruced things up further.  Eventually, Angle and Edge powdered out and were brawling in the crowd, leaving the Rock to rally and hit the Rock Bottom on Jericho for the pin.

Be sure to check out the as-broadcast version of SD! this Thursday night on UPN (or at least come on back to OO for a full recap on Friday!)...  and of course, thanks to all who filed reports from the tapings!
