ONLINE ONSLAUGHT
Tons o' Spoilers...
May 8, 2002

by Rick Scaia
Exclusive to OnlineOnslaught.com

Amidst a chaotic background (especially for the RAW roster), the former WWF -- now WWE -- has completed its first week of TV tapings under their new name.

As is our custom, I know warn those of you who don't want surprises for the rest of the week spoiled to simply hit BACK now.  Certainly, there is plenty of spoiler-free news to check up on today!

But for the rest of you nosy bastards, we got spoilers, and lots of 'em.  Here goes...

Sunday Night Heat Tapings
(Taped Monday, May 6)

  • Rob Van Dam beat Goldust.
  • Eddie Guerrero beat Tommy Dreamer
  • Matt Hardy beat Mr. Perfect
  • The tapings started late and seemed rushed... that could be why there were no dark matches and only three Heat matches.

SmackDown! and Jakked/Metal Tapings
(Taped Tuesday, May 7)

These result were provided by OO Reader Vinnie Lawrence:

I attended the first ever WWE Smackdown! tonight and I thought I would   e-mail you the results. I've been reading your website ever since Wrestleline went defunct and I'm glad you could keep the basic content alive.

Without further ado, your Smackdown! Results

The first match was a dark match between Slick Wagner Brown and Inferno which Slick Wagner Brown won with a full nelson driver type move. The crowd was pretty hot for the intros, but got bored with the match pretty quickly.

Then the Jakked announce team was introduced and Al Snow got the first real pop of the night being the first person the crowd reconized. The other announcer...I think his name is Mark Something was actually booed.

Jakked/Metal Tapings

1. Valboski (without towel) d. Albert (without Prince) via 2nd Rope Sunset Flip

2. Chavo d. Sho Funaki (with Evil) via a brainbuster

3. Kidman d. Christain via DQ when Christain hit the Greco-Roman shot to the nuts. Christains pyro got a huge face pop BTW.

4. Former WCW Champion Ron Simmons d. Godfather (without hoes or escorts) via rollup. Pretty big "We want hoes!" chant. After the match Godfather jumped Farooq with a cane.

Then the Smackdown! announcers came out and for the record Tazz was wearing a tie.

Smackdown! results:

1st Segment was Stacey introducing Vince Jr. and him talking about HHH so then Trips comes out and talks some trash. So Vince has his loyal jobbers come out to beat down HHH. Crowd wants Hogan to make the save, instead Y2J puts HHH in a liontamer to end the segment.

Oh yeah, Vince made the match for Judgement Day...HHH vs Y2J in a little match the kids are calling Hell in a Cell.

Then we get some matches:

1. Hurricane d. Tajiri via COR when Torrie decides to finally strip down to show some skin.

2. Test d. Mark Henry via Boot to face. Suprisingly good match considering Henry being not only the world's strongest man, but also the slowest.

3. D-Von (with Deacon Couldn'tcatchthename) d. HHH via a Jericho hitting HHH with a collection box. Huge upset and the crowd was stunned.

2nd interview segment had Angle showing the world WHAT it would be like Edge was bald. Then Edge snuck a picture on the titantron of Angle bald and then another slide which simply said "You Suck" Angle calls Edge out but instead we get Hulkimainia 2002. Huge pop for Hogan as a lot of the crowd was decked out in the Yellow and Red. I guess Hogan has beef with Angle for making fun of bald people. Physical violence ensues and Angle finally retreats only to be speared by Edge on the stage.

Backstage segment makes are main event: Angle and Jericho vs Hogan and Edge.

4. Chuck, Billy, and Rico d. Al Snow, Maven, and Rikishi via famasser. Only Rikishi's ass was shown however.

5. Lance Storm d. Randy Orton (Hardcore Bob as special ref) via Maple Leaf when Sparky pushed the ropes away from Orton's reach. Val makes the post-match save.

6. The main even ends in a no-contest when HHH goes all Austin on us and takes out everyone in site with the Sledgehammer o' Doom. Vince comes down to badmouth HHH yet again and Y2J gives HHH a chair to the head for his troubles.

Some other notes -

There were a number of anti-WWE signs including one a kid had people signing outside the arena before the show started.

And I saw Bob Backlund outside the arena too when he walked right past me.

There even was a "Bring the F Back" chant towards the end of the show after the commercial for the name change was shown.

Well that's it...I'm outta here.

See ya!

Thanks to Vinnie for his report from the WWE's backyard in Connecticut...  and remember to check out all these shows as they air over the rest of the week/weekend.

Or at least be sure to come on back and let OO's stable of recappers get you up to speed on how everything came off in its as-aired version!
