ONLINE ONSLAUGHT
WWE TV Spoilers
July 31, 2002

by Rick Scaia
Exclusive to OnlineOnslaught.com

With the recent set of defections to RAW, the momentum once held firmly by SmackDown! seems to be in serious jeopardy.  Or is there a move coming up this week to offset some of SD's recent losses?

Well, there are two ways to find out.  The more traditional way would be to hit BACK on your browser and wait until Thursday night, when the show airs on UPN.  The other way is to keep reading, because we've got full spoilers for SD! (as well as Heat and Velocity) below.

As compiled from e-mail reports:

WWE Sunday Night Heat
(Taped Monday, Airs Sunday)

  • Matt Hardy beat Steven Richards
  • Shelton Benjamin beat Justin Credible (possibly a dark match?)
  • Johnny the Bull Stamboli beat Spike Dudley
  • Goldust beat William Regal

WWE Velocity
(Taped Tuesday, Airs Saturday)

  • Hardcore Holly beat Albert
  • Billy and Chuck beat the Hurricane and Shannon Moore
  • Faarooq beat Mike Awesome
  • Billy Kidman beat Funaki
  • Note:  reports were unclear, but a Molly Holly win over Torrie Wilson may also have been taped for Velocity (others said it was a dark match)

WWE SmackDown!
(Taped Tuesday, Airs Thursday)

  • Things get off to a hot start, with Rey Mysterio pinning Tajiri after a good showing.
  • Kurt Angle follows up with a big in-ring promo in which he cuts loose on Brock Lesnar.  He wants Lesnar in a match tonight.  Hulk Hogan interrupts and says he's the one that got F-5'ed last week, and HE wants Lesnar tonight.  Stephanie McMahon intercedes and sets up a Hogan/Angle match for tonight, with the winner to face Lesnar next week.
  • Backstage:  Steph returns to her office to find Eric Bischoff skulking around.  Bischoff is ejected from the building by security.
  • Brock Lesnar dispatches Mark Henry after an F-5.
  • Backstage:  Lesnar and Heyman approach Hogan and wish him luck in his match.  This segues smoothly into Rico mediating an argument between Billy and Chuck, which in turn segues into Rico having a verbal confrontation with John Cena.  Kurt Angle walks in on the whole scenario and ends up a few yards down the hall, being wished luck by Lesnar and Heyman.  Ah, full circle!
  • Hulk Hogan got a DQ win over Kurt Angle.  The finish had Lesnar come out to cause a distraction, but the ref caught Angle pasting Hogan with a chairshot, to cause the DQ.  Hogan hulked up on Angle after the match, but Lesnar interfered and gave Hogan the F-5 before Angle got a leg drop o' doom.
  • Rikishi pinned D'Von Dudley following a Bonzai Drop, but when he tried to stinkface D'Von after the match, Batista left him lying following a spinebuster.
  • Backstage:  Stephanie McMahon gets upset with Stacy Keibler for not informing her (Steph) that Eric Bischoff was hanging around in her office.  Stacy pleads ignorance.  Later, Steph walks in on the mid-carder lockerroom and catches them watching a tape of RAW.  She gets pissed and forbids them to ever watch the show in her arena again.
  • Jamie Knoble and Nidia hit the ring and cut a promo on Michael Cole (of all people). Knoble wants respect, and he wants Cole to give it to him on commentary.  Throughout the verbal onslaught, Nidia is on Cole's lap, acting in a generally lascivious manner.  Knoble promises that if Cole makes him look like a million bucks with his commentary, he'll send Nidia back to him as a reward.
  • John Cena defeated Rico fairly easily, but after the match, Billy and Chuck attacked and left Cena out cold in the ring following a Doomsday Device-like move.
  • Eric Bischoff made his way through the crowd to a ringside seat (which he apparently paid for).  Bischoff managed to start a "Watch RAW" chant.
  • Stephanie comes out for a promo, and congratulates Bischoff for having the smarts to buy his own ticket so he can make a nuisance of himself.  But then, she's also got a big surprise for Eric:  SD's announced main event of Rock vs. Edge will not take place.  Because instead, she wants Rock and Edge to team up and take on the newest SD! brand superstars:  Eddie Guerrero and IC Champ Chris Benoit!  Bischoff is furious that she took two of his stars (including the IC Title) from RAW, and tries to hop the railing.  He's dragged away by security.
  • In the main event, Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit was victorious.  The finish saw Lesnar come out and provide a distraction, as the Rock tapped out to Chris Benoit's Crippler Crossface.  After the match, Lesnar just walked away, but halfway up the ramp, was intercepted by Hulk Hogan, who waffled him with a chairshot.  [The taped portion of the show ended here, although, the Rock called Lesnar back to the ring for a little something extra for the live crowd...  Rock wound up Rock Bottoming Lesnar to finish the event.]

Check out these shows as they air through the rest of the week, or just come on back to OO for recaps of them, as they air.
