ONLINE ONSLAUGHT
WWE TV Spoilers
August 28, 2002

by Rick Scaia
Exclusive to OnlineOnslaught.com

The consensus is that WWE followed up Sunday's strong SummerSlam with a tepid outing on Monday...  but what's in store the rest of the week?  Well, read on and you can find out!

The usual word of warning to anyone who doesn't want to read spoilers, yet for some reason clicked this link:  just HIT BACK NOW, moron.  Then you can watch the shows in blissful ignorance later this week...

But for the rest of you, I now commence the tapings recaps, as compiled from various e-mail reports:

WWE Sunday Night Heat
(Taped Monday, Airs Sunday)

  • Goldust beat Johnny the Bull Stamboli
  • Steven Richards beat Crash Holly
  • Bradshaw beat Justin Credible
  • D'Lo Brown beat Raven (in a huge blow-off to their epic feud?)

WWE Velocity
(Taped Tuesday, Airs Saturday)

  • Chuck and Billy beat Randy Orton and Bob Holly when Billy pinned Orton with the "One and Only".
  • Jamie Knoble retained the Cruiserweight Title with a win over Funaki.
  • Mark Henry pinned former Intercontinental Champion Albert with a powerslam.
  • Chavo Guerrero beat the Hurricane with a handful of tights.  CHEAT TO WIN!

WWE SmackDown!
(Taped Tuesday, Airs Thursday)

  • Stephanie McMahon opened the show, and announced that since SmackDown! is the new exclusive home of Undisputed Champ Brock Lesnar, SHE will be the one who selects a new #1 Contender.  And it won't be RAW's Triple H.  Instead, she says tonight's SD! will feature an elimination series, and the man who wins the final match will be the #1 Contender.
  • Match #1 of the Elimination Series:  Eddie Guerrero beats Edge, with an assist from a chair.
  • Backstage, Matt Hardy asks Stephanie if he can get a shot in the Elimination Series.  Stephanie is noncommital.
  • Reverend D-Von pinned John Cena with his inverted DDT.  After the match, Batista ran in and leveled D-Von.
  • Rey Mysterio has a good outing, getting a convincing win over Rico (Billy and Chuck had been barred from ringside).
  • Backstage, Bob Holly lobbies Steph for a spot in the Elimination Series, but Steph is called away by Dawn Marie to take a phone call.
  • Elimination Series Match #2:  Rikishi pins Eddie after a superkick.  After the match, Chris Benoit runs in and the Radicalz double team Rikishi until Edge can make a save.
  • Backstage, Stephanie approaches Chris Benoit and says he's got the next match in the Elimination Series, against Rikishi.
  • Shannon Moore (seconded by the Hurricane) got a win over Tajiri (seconded by Knoble/Nidia) in his first singles shot on SmackDown!
  • Elimination Series Match #3:  Chris Benoit got Rikishi to tap out to the Crossface.
  • Backstage, Kurt Angle reveals that Steph "saved the best for last," and that in the main event, he'll face Benoit for the #1 Contender spot.
  • Backstage, Funaki tries to interview Brock Lesnar, but is interrupted by Matt Hardy (who has now been booked to face Lesnar later in the night).  Hardy says tonight will mark the start of a new era:  WWE Attitude is dead, but "Mattitude" will live on forever.
  • Brock Lesnar defeated Matt Hardy in his first post-title-win match.  Mixed, but more cheering than booing, response to Lesnar as he won the match with an F-5, then followed up with a double-clutch powerbomb after the match.
  • Backstage, Steph announces that the main event won't be a singles match, but rather a Triple Threat Match, and tells Dawn Marie to get Eric Bischoff on the phone so she can tell him to tune in and watch another of his RAW stars defect to SD!.
  • Stephanie introduces the Undertaker as the third participant in the main event.  Argh, just when I was getting excited to see Angle/Benoit on SD!...  making matters worse:  Taker pinned Benoit following the Last Ride to win the match.  So it's now Taker vs. Lesnar at Unforgiven.  Undertaker celebrated to close out the show, and apparently, there were no post-show antics.

Check out the shows as they air throughout the rest of the week, or come on back to OO for full results and analysis of the as-aired product!
