ONLINE ONSLAUGHT
WWE TV Spoilers
July 14, 2004

by Rick Scaia
Exclusive to OnlineOnslaught.com

No time. So late. So technical difficultied. So angry. So frustrated.

So here: spoilers from TV tapings, compiled (in abbreviated fashion) from e-mail reports...

WWE Sunday Night Heat
(Taped Monday, Airs Sunday)

  • Victoria beat Molly Holly, with help from Stevie Richards
  • "Welcome to Heat" Randy Orton beat Rosey
  • Val Venis beat Chuck Palumbo

WWE Velocity
(Taped Tuesday, Airs Saturday)

  • Sho Funaki beat Some Guy (probably a dark match)
  • Mark Jindrak beat Billy Gunn
  • Nunzio defeated D. Basham
  • Hardcore Holly beat Some Guy (Some Guy and Mark Jindrak, coming soon to a tag team near you?)
  • Rob Van Dam (!) beat Akio (good, but short, match)

WWE SmackDown!
(Taped Tuesday, Airs Thursday)

  • Opening promo: Booker T, Rene Dupree, and Kenzo Suzuki all want the US Title.  Then John Cena comes on the screen and says he does to, and is going to Kurt Angle to get his shot.  In Angle's office, we book a huge match: Booker/Rene/Suzuki vs. Cena in a handicap match.  Then Luther Reigns tries to attack Cena.
  • Rey Mysterio and Spike Dudley beat Jamie Noble and Chavo Guerrero. Spike pinned Jamie with (UNWANTED) help from Bubba and D-Von.
  • Booker T won the elimination handicap match. Cena got both Dupree and Suzuki, but with an assist from Luther, Booker pinned Cena in the end.
  • Backstage, the four SD! divas approached Kurt Angle about their role on the show, and for their bitching, all got fired. Huh?
  • Paul Heyman introduced his newest charge: John Heidenreich. Oh lord, maybe it's not ALL good this week....
  • Paul London upset D-Von Dudley in a singles match that did feature a lot of involvement from the respective partners.
  • John Bradshaw Layfield beat Eddie Guerrero to retain the WWE Title.  Under escape rules, they had a pretty decent, drama-laden match.  Finish was really sweet and went over huge: both guys got to the top of the cage, and out came El Gran Luchador, who climbed up the cage, too.... AND STARTED ATTACKING EDDIE GUERRERO!  This allowed JBL to make his escape.  As Eddie and EGL continued to fight, Eddie eventually removed the man's mask to reveal.... KURT ANGLE!  Angle was able to beat a hasty retreat, as Eddie was shocked.  Folks: yes, JBL is still the champ, but make no mistake, we have a new top level, main event feud on SmackDown! and it does not suck.

Said to be a very good wrestling-y show, with two very long and dramatic matches (handicap and main event) and then two fast-paced and exciting palate cleansers... toss in the KILLER closing angle, and sounds like another winner.  And with Angle revealed to be healthy, it not only sets the stage for drama in GM's office (obviously, we'll get a new one and the divas won't stay fired), but gives SD! another guy who can help bolster the sagging roster as they gear up for SummerSlam.

Seriously: expect Taker vs. JBL for The Title.  But expect Eddie vs. Kurt to be The Story.  It's definitely a start.
