OO vs. WL: PPV PREDICTIONS WARFARE!
SD! presents No Way Out
February 21, 2005

by PyroFalkon
Independent Auditor for OnlineOnslaught.com and WrestleLine.com

No Way Out represents the first PPV in 2005 I didn’t buy. That certainly won’t repeat itself next time, as it will take a miracle by God to stop me from getting Wrestlemania.

And speaking of Wrestlemania, John Cena’s going, which should have been obvious to anyone with half a brain… but not me! With his win last night, it was another miss I had in the scoring. It’s ironic, because I still like him more than the average smark, and yet I was rooting against him for once. What I need to do is start paying attention to things like Matches

On The Next Card… had I known Cena and JBL would face off at Mania, I would have went the other way. In fact, I have witnesses on the OO message board where I said I wish I could change my picks. But once it’s posted for the world to see, it’s locked in.

Ah well, at least I didn’t get to change my Rey/Eddie pick! Thanks to a technicality, I shouldn’t have that pick count, but it does; I submitted it as “Rey/Eddie win the match but not the title.” However, we haven’t (and may not) started that rule yet, so Rick interpreted my pick as “Rey/Eddie win, and that’s all that matters.” So yay, I look smarter than everyone else at OO… in one pick, anyway. All that matters, though, is the total, and mine wasn’t pretty.

But before I get into that, let me explain our scoring system for newbies. Our contests are based on two criteria: points and percentage. The percentage is pure, with no bonuses or anything. With points, each match is given a certain point value depending on its place on the card; the first match is worth one point, the second worth two, and so on. I’m also keeping track of how well we do when guessing the main events specifically, and that stat will be reported from now on.

All right, here’s how the points were distributed last night:

1 point: Eddie & Rey over The Bashams
2 points: Booker T over Heidenreich
3 points: Chavo over in the 6-man elimination match
4 points: Undertaker over Luther Reigns
5 points: John Cena over Kurt Angle
6 points: JBL over Big Show (main event)

The point winners were both on WrestleLine, with Daniel Fitch and Scott Hardie scoring 18 points each. Hardie is also the percentage winner, going 5-1 (.833). Jonathan Leung’s and Ryan Deppa’s perfect records have been stopped, and Deppa was even at the bottom of the percentage pile over at WL, only going .500.

On Online Onslaught, everyone was either .500 or .667. We had a three-way tie for points, with Adam Gutschmidt, Big Danny T, and The Cubs Fan each scoring 17 points. The bottom-feeding trash bag trailer park ho of both teams was me, scoring only 9 points.

Every single writer got the main event right, and that distinction shows the reason I keep track of it. The WWE is supposed to be all about unpredictability (“Anything can happen!”), but when everyone knows the main event is a forgone conclusion, something is very wrong. But better men and one better Broad have explained that fifty different ways, so I won’t go further into it.

The scores were a little closer, but WrestleLine won both the point and percentage battles, and therefore gets the notch for this one. WL went 24-12 (.667) and 17.0 PPW. OO went 33-27 (.550) and 14.6 PPW. Overall we went 57-39 (.594) and 15.8 PPW. Sixteen writers participated.

Here is the complete rundown of stats, with the addition of the main event totals for the first time in 2005. Online Onslaught writers are in red, WrestleLine writers are in blue.
