OO BATTLE OF THE BRANDS
RAW vs. SmackDown!:  Who Wins?

Week Ending May 7, 2004

Featuring Many Current and Past OO Columnists
Ratings Compiled by Rick Scaia

OOficial Brand of the Week:
RAW

RAW:
4.23  --/-- SD!: 2.77

RATING SYSTEM: Rather than go with the standard 1-10 integer scale for rating shows, OO has selected a 0.0-5.0 rating scheme.  Not only does this allow the reviewer to more precisely award points, but more importantly, it is our belief that our ratings will, in a way, be comparable to the weekly Nielsen Ratings.  Our ratings are based on show quality, however, whereas Nielsen's are based on eyeballs.  Just as WWE hasn't reached the real world 5.0 mark in a long, long time, it will take a monumental effort for a show to earn the highest OO World ratings...  but piss us off in a given week, and we'll be rating you like you're Nitro and it's 2001.

Matt's battle-to-date averages: RAW (3.7), SD! (3.3).

Big Danny T

RAW: 4.2
Wow, I can't say enough good about this show. Two awesome matches, Jericho still fighting the good fight against Christian, and Eugene/Regal giving me the best laughs I've had in a while. And please allow me to parrot Rick in saying that the only sucky part of the show was Lita destroying 3 years of badass character development with her horrible acting. Couldn't Kane have gone after someone else, Like Nidia? Oh wait, that woudln't have given Lita and Matt a reason to get back together.

Anyway, apart from that one niggling point, awesome show.

SmackDown!: 3.0
A little bit of good, a little bit of bad, a lot of, 'Ehh..." Check the Recap.

Danny's battle-to-date averages: RAW (3.4), SD! (3.4).

Rick Scaia
RAW: 4.4
There's little to be said that I haven't said already:  great bookend matches, lots of entertaining stuff in between, and a really nice job of building up five matches for NEXT week at the same time as they were blowing our socks off this week.  The 4.4 was arrived at this way: the show came really close to earning a "perfect" 4.8 (sorry, but I'm one of THOSE people who can't give a perfect score out of fear he'll see something better five minutes later), except that I docked a half-point for the crap with Kane, Matt, and Lita.  But I did give 'em back a tenth of a point for surprising me by not jobbing out Tajiri.  Excellent show, no matter what number I assign to it!

SmackDown!: 2.4
Good lord.  You had some decent stuff here, but my over riding sense after watching SD! was that they had done NOTHING except further hamstring the Judgment Day PPV.  The crap with Booker and the Voodoo Scavenger Hunt actually makes the Booker/Taker feud much more stupid and uninteresting than it had been.  And the quasi-shoot stuff with Eddie's mom did NOTHING to address the core of the already stupid and uninteresting feud he's got going with Bradshaw.  I swear, it's like they don't even KNOW they've got a PPV coming up in a week.  So for all the good (guilty pleasure moments like Taker and FBI, or harmless fun like the Chavos doing great work and making Jackie's CW Title win seem big, or a solid main event tag match), this was a week when it felt like SD! was still struggling just to stay average.

Rick's battle-to-date averages: RAW (3.4), SD! (3.5).
